A subject pool is a common feature in many research-oriented universities that
conduct research in the behavioural/psychology sciences. A typical subject pool consists
of students like yourself and serves an important purpose. The nature of
science is such that empirical observation is crucial to theory testing. In
other words, any viable theory has to be supported by data at the bare minimum.
This data come in the form of participants' responses in carefully controlled
research studies. Hence, your participation in these studies plays the
important role of allowing academic researchers to further our understanding of
human behavior/psychology. Moreover, it provides you with the opportunity to experience
first-hand the data collection phase of the research process.
